Student Exchange Opportunities

Explore. Connect. Experience the world.

Student exchange experiences offer rich and rewarding opportunities for cultural growth, independence, and global understanding.

At Kelmscott Senior High School, we encourage students to engage in exchange programs abroad and within Australia, and we welcome families to consider hosting an exchange student.

Our Sister School Partnership: Japan

Kelmscott SHS is proud to offer a dedicated exchange program with our sister school, Himeji Shikisai High School, near Osaka, Japan.

This unique partnership provides students with an authentic international experience, including:

  • Living with a host family
  • Attending and participating in school life in Japan
  • Developing Japanese language skills
  • Engaging in cultural activities and excursions
  • Building lasting international friendships

This program reflects our commitment to meaningful global connections and real-world learning experiences.

International Exchange Opportunities

Through student exchange, students:

  • Develop intercultural understanding and global awareness
  • Build independence, resilience, and adaptability
  • Experience new education systems and ways of learning
  • Form lasting international connections

These experiences enrich learning and broaden perspectives beyond the classroom.

Hosting an Exchange Student

Hosting an exchange student is a valuable and rewarding experience for families.

Families and organisations seeking to enrol an exchange student are encouraged to:

  • Contact the Enrolments Team prior to making arrangements
  • Work with an authorised exchange program provider
  • Follow all required enrolment processes

Early communication with the school ensures a smooth and successful experience.

Outbound Student Exchange

Students interested in travelling overseas for exchange are encouraged to plan carefully.

  • Exchange is recommended prior to Years 11 and 12
  • Participation during senior school may impact achievement of the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).
  • Please note that the SAGSE is for senior secondary students, normally held during the December vacation period.

Approved Exchange Organisations

The Department of Education recognises approved providers, including:

Discover the World. Grow for Life.

At Kelmscott SHS, student exchange experiences empower students to broaden their horizons, embrace new cultures, and develop the skills to thrive in a global community.
