Clans at Kelmscott SHS

At Kelmscott Senior High School, our Clan system plays a vital role in building a strong sense of belonging, connection, and school pride. Much like traditional “houses,” Clans foster teamwork, positive relationships, and a shared identity for every student.
All students are placed into a Clan when they enrol, becoming part of a supportive team that celebrates participation, effort, and achievement across school life.
Our Clans
Kelmscott SHS proudly has four Clans, each with its own identity and spirit:
- Dale (Red) – Represented by a bull
- Martin (Blue) – Represented by a shark
- Gell (Gold) – Represented by a lion
- Lucich (Green) – Represented by a dragon
Students represent their Clan in a range of school events, most prominently our sporting carnivals, where Clans compete for the prestigious Clan Shield.
Building Connection Through Friendly Competition
The Clan system encourages students to connect, participate, and contribute through healthy and positive competition.
Clans operate across multiple aspects of school life, including:
- Sporting events such as athletics carnivals
- Whole-school activities and celebrations
- Behaviour recognition and reward systems
This structure helps students feel known, valued, and connected within a larger school community.
Recognising Positive Behaviour
At Kelmscott SHS, we believe in celebrating positive behaviour and effort. Students are awarded Clan Points by teachers for demonstrating our school values and contributing positively to the school community.
Clan Points are:
- Awarded through Compass, our online school management system
- Visible to students, families and staff
- Tracked across the year to recognise individual and Clan achievements
Each term, points are reviewed and celebrated through raffles, prizes, and acknowledgements.
Opportunities for Leadership
Students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles as Clan Leaders, representing their peers and contributing to school life.
Clan Leaders play an important role in:
- Supporting and promoting clan activities
- Gathering student voice and feedback
- Assisting with the organisation of events and competitions
This provides meaningful opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility.

Families can access their child’s progress and Clan Points at any time through Compass, strengthening the connection between school and home.
